S-S-Studio
Another simple point that I've understood before and will need to understand again... This summer break has proved to me that having a studio, a space to go and to be and to work, is necessary. I have plenty of time to think, that is not my problem. My problem, maybe, is about discipline. A studio is a place to throw around materials. To badly paraphrase Lawrence Weiner, this is an empirical world and sometimes you've just got to throw some concrete around... You shouldn't shit where you sleep. I'm not sure I can work where I live. It's not impossible but I'm a naturally lazy person. I don't have a problem running a gallery where I live... but that's a different kind of work. That's facilitating...
I'm looking forward to having a studio again.

Simon Munnery: as close to art as comedy gets...
In comedy, like in art, there are those who reinstate what we already know and there are those who are interested in asking questions about what we don't... Stewart Lee makes this point much more eloquently in his book, How I escaped my certain fate, the life and many deaths of a stand-up comedian.

3x3 16-5-2001
This is a blast from the past... recently uncovered footage of a 9 person exhibition put on by art students from MMU back in 2001, (of which I was one). It was a lot of fun and helped clear up a lot of things for me, e.g. nine cooks make broth making very difficult and music at PVs isn't a good call.... My paintings were the small orange square ones on the blue wall...

Untitled (open/closed), David Cochrane, 2011
This is a short video documentation of David Cochrane's animation, Untitled (open/closed), which was made whilst on residency at J. A. Sinclair Gallery. The animation was made by tracing individual films stills which were then photographed and animated on Final Cut. The drawings were done using a dip pen and traditional Japanese black ink. The film was projected above the picture rail in the hallway, facing the front door so that it would greet visitors to the Gallery.
